Photos and Video
And here is a video of some Portage Lake sailing, done by Mark at Defined Visuals. Thanks Mark!
This year's Champagne Regatta was unique due to covid restrictions. Winds in the first race were light but then filled in to make the perfect race day on Portage Lake. Nine boats came out to race and a couple other club boats were out to spectate. Lotsa laughs were had on Zoom as "awards" were presented. All in all, it was a fun, safe regatta making the best of pandemic times.
OYC racing in the 70's. Photo shows George Ellison's E-Scow about to dump on Ralph Hodek's Chrysler 22, with Randy Smith Taser getting into some bad air. Note that Blue Bear has a reefed main, a small job, and a chute ready at the bow. Estimated wind speed is 20+. Good fun!
Great pic of the OYC fleet sailing the downwind legs of a triangular course, marks to port, from the Onigaming mark to the R30 buoy, via the Sunshine mark. Taken during one of the Sundowner races on July 16, 2021 (courtesy of Apurva Baruah).
The read path on the map approximately shows the race course. The wind direction (shown in blue on the map) was a bit more Northerly during the race. So the leg between Onigaming and Sunshine was alomst a run, and the one from Sunshine to R30 was a rather high broad to a beam reach.
